I'm starting from the beginning here so everyone will know what a sucky week this has been for our household. Jaxon is getting his bottom I-teeth and these teeth are tough on him and so he hasn't been sleeping real great. So Monday night we decided we were going to be the tough parents and let him cry it out. Derek had gotten up with him earlier in the night and got him back to sleep and put him back to bed. Then around 4 (yes, that's am) he woke up and started screaming again. We were letting him cry it out, knowing with him that it normally only takes one night of this for him (and us) to start sleeping thru the night again. So we let him cry and cry and cry. It's so hard these days because he sits there and cries, "I want daddy" I want momma. Those are tough words to resist when sleep deprived and going thru difficult times as we are right now. So we let him cry. At 4:30 Derek got up and shut our bedroom door so that we could at least get a little bit more sleep that night. Around 5:15 he was whining and it just seemed like he was getting closer and closer. So I asked Derek, "Is he getting closer?" Derek goes, "I believe so." I said, "So, I guess that means he's not in his bed anymore?" Derek goes, "Guess not." He was standing at our bedroom door. Derek opens the door and there Jaxon is with both of his stuffed animals that he sleeps with in hand as happy as could be when he saw his daddy. He crawled up into bed with us and immediately went right back to sleep.
So, we had to think quick and come up with an action plan because we didn't really want to chance him climbing out of his crib again and hurting himself. You all know that this kid is smart and once he figures something out he's going to do it again. So, his crib converts to a toddler bed, just without the rails on the side. So I took his bed apart Tuesday evening and made it into a toddler bed. This went pretty good the first night. Derek layed in there with him until he fell asleep. He slept in his bed until 4 am when he just came walking into our room with his two stuffed animals. The rule of thumb at our house is if it's after 4, we just put him bed with us so we can get that last little bit of sleep in the morning. So, we put him in our bed and we all went to sleep.
We were optimistic about the 2nd night after we thought the first night went over so well. Well, it didn't. He was up at 1, of course, this was my night to be up with him, so I went in and layed on his floor until 2 when I would have sworn he was sound asleep. I get back into my bed and get nice and comfy and start dozing off, and at 2:30, he's back in our room standing by my side of the bed, looking me in the face. So I take him back to his bed, and he doesn't want to sleep in his bed, he wants to sleep in the floor with mamma. So him and I sleep in the floor until 6 when Derek comes and wakes me up that my alarm is going off.
Ok, so now it's Thursday, Derek and I are both very sleep deprived. We're hoping for a good night. Jaxon and I fall asleep on the couch around 9:30. I take him to his bed at 1o. When Derek and I went to bed we took bets on what time he would be up. Derek said 3. I said 2. We were both way off. It was 11:45, he walked into our room. Oh, by the way, this week Jaxon has also figured out how to crawl onto our bed with no help, so at 11:45 when he was in our room he was already halfway onto our bed before we both woke up enough to figure out what was going on. So, I got up and escorted him back to his bed. He threw a fit of course. I sat on the floor and rubbed his back for a little bit. He then said, "I want floor" I guess he's figured out that mommy and daddy lay on his floor so he thinks he needs to. I don't know. So I didn't want to fight with him anymore this week about it so I said, well, get your pillow and get down in the floor. So he grabs his pillow, puts it in the floor, grabs his two stuffed animals and his blanket and lays down in the floor. I turned on his closet light, blocked him into his room with his toy basket and he eventually laid down and went to sleep. This is where I found him Friday morning, right where I left him. Apparently I need to just move his mattress to the floor and let him sleep there. He's such a crazy kid.
